I am a systems engineer for a company specializing in electronic access control systems. As these new wireless locks come to market the sales guys are telling everybody how secure their credentials are. I am tired of hearing the stories so I bought a PM3 this week and now I am am shooting to know for myself what is salesman BS and what is real.
I have a great deal of experience in electronic access control as I have been designing and installing them for nearly 20 years. My most interesting experience involved using Arduino to spoof Wiegand data to a reader port in an instance where we had to make 2 different EAC systems talk to each other for which no integration was available. Using the Arduino we transmitted wiegand data to one system based on inputs from the other system.
I really hope the Proxmark lives up to the hype and research here leads me to having a complete understanding of the communications taking place between the readers and various cards.
