PM3 clicking

I've had a proxmark3 for about a year now, using it occasionally without issue.  Recently I was trying to sniff mifare interaction with a ACR122u reader and the pm3 seemed to shutdown during the process and become nonresponsive.  Both the pm3 and the ACR122u were plugged into the front-panel ports on my machine, so I suspect the failure may have been due to insufficient power.

After that, however, the pm3 makes an audible click when I plug it in to the usb, the led's flash, then the red light near the button flashes.  The client is able to access it, but only once before I have to unplug the USB and reconnect it.  Trying to bring the client up a second time yields 'invalid serial port', though dmesg does not indicate the device has detached or otherwise changed (and does detect it disconnecting).

So, it still works, but with degraded performance and new behavior.  Is there anything to do about this?

I'm using latest client and firmware from github, pulled & built earlier this week.
