PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

Hi Guys,

I have been having some troubles with my PM3

PM3 not recognized, thus causing me not able to load the drivers.

Device manager yellow bang:
"Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed"

I have been pointing the drivers from the file "pm3-bin-756 - lua branch". However, it does not work "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"

I have also tried "Disable driver signature enforcement" but still no go.

***Tried these steps from github tutorial but no luck
A – Unplug Proxmark3
B – Plug-in Proxmark3 WHILE HOLDING the PM3 button (keep it pressed!); now PM3 will show up under “Device Manager”
C – while STILL HOLDING the button, right-click on it
D – click on “Properties” (keep the button pressed)
E – click on “Driver” tab and select “Update Driver…”

OPERATING SYSTEM:
The current OS on my laptop: Windows 8.1 64bit
I also tried on my Windows 7 Home Pre 64bit desktop and issue persist.

--PM3 indicates two Red LED Lights

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

to install the driver you have to "Browse for driver software..." - "Let me pick from a list of..." - "Have Disk" - browse to pm3 cdc driver.

You will need to disable driver signing first for win 8.1

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

btw, the only "driver" needed is the proxmark3.inf in the driver folder of any recent code. (current code found on github)

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

I tried to point the driver to proxmark3.inf from recent pm3 folder downloaded on github.

Got the error message:

"The folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, makesure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems".

I'm starting to give up pm3 on windows 8.1, do you know if running XP on WMware will have better luck with installing pm3 drivers?

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

As @marshmellow mentioned,  as with later versions of windows you'll need to disable the driver signing.
I'm wondering when PM3 will get a signed driver,.. like the one RFidler has.

Maybe some companies that make a lot of money from the sale of PM3, should be spend about 200$ for a certificate and sign the inf file.
I believe that there is need of renewal. Maybe is better use linux.

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

Looks like a normal pm3 board to me.
If the driver is installed, then you may need to update the bootrom (use the old hid-flasher to do this)

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

I agree with iceman, if you got the board off eBay it may have very old firmware and you may need the old driver not the CDC driver.  Then update your firmware.  But again make sure you are selecting have disk.

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

Of course it is also possible that the board has no firmware loaded and needs a JTAG to load it...

Re: PM3 not recognized | Windows 8.1

since his step B says the device gets identified when keeping the buttonpressed,  It must have bootrom.  If it has bootrom, you can update firmware. Should be an old bootrom,  so yeah use the the hid-flasher (look in the client/hidflasher folder)
Then use the newer flasher (in client) to flash the latest fullimage.elf...

After that you should be fine...  Only once in my 2.5years with PM3 have I need to recover a device via JTAG.    The other times holding the button pressed usually does the trick for me.

I assumed that was a direct quote and not what actually happened.

Could been like that. Maybe wishful thinking from my side.
