Hi everyone,
I purchased a proxmark3 when they first became available, and I let it sit in my drawer ever since. Now I've pulled it out and I'm looking to get it up and running, but I'm having issues. I assume this has like, the very first firmware/bootloader ever, and when I connect it to my Win7 64bit machine, I don't see any USB HID entries, I see an entry for "Unknown Device" under USB Controllers in Device Manager. I can't get any hardware ID or anything, and any attempt at updating the driver simply results in failure.
I've also tried this on a new laptop with freshly installed Win7 64bit and I have the same result.
I've also attempted to hold the button down and plug in the USB cable, and the same thing results - unknown device.
Any ideas?
Anyone willing to trade me an updated proxmark3 for this one + $50 (USD via PayPal)? I'd really like to figure this out myself but time is also of the essence for me with a pending project.
Thanks
Amal

if you checkout the latest source from GitHub, there is a hidflasher which works with the earlier firmware.
There are more people who has had same problem as you, search inside the windows client threads.

Hi Iceman, thanks for responding. The problem is, my proxmark does NOT show up as an HID device, it shows as "unknown device"... and, unfortunately I've already tried the old flasher... no love.
Offline
To clarify "no love" - the old flasher simply says something like "waiting to detect proxmark on USB...." and it never detects.

hm, sounds like your driver hasn't been installed. Did you use the driver/proxmark.inf ? I guess you might need an other one.
Offline
Yep, we're getting at the crux of the problem now... I can't install the driver. I've tried several driver options from various downloads on github and the old google code repo, but windows will flat out not accept the driver when I try to manually update the "unknown device". Is there a specific link for a particular .inf you'd like me to try? I'd be happy to attempt and report.

I think since you are running win7/64bit and it wants signed drivers, there was an issue with that.
Did you follow the updatebootload.pdf instructions?
and older ProxMark-3_RFID_Instrument.inf (Copyright (c) 2010 libusb-win32 (GNU LGPL) )

I found two older .inf on my setup. https://www.sendspace.com/file/cs8m47
Who knows, you might get lucky

Yep, this is the INF file i'm trying to use;
File: ProxMark-3_RFID_Instrument.inf
CRC-32: 246e420c
MD4: 75f5c97a20ecfba06716e24a38fedf41
MD5: d5a247099a275e2014e2d46fbc0174cd
SHA-1: 6eee7ecbfa3729dd00d05d0add41c98f503349d3
When I go to the unknown device in Device Manager, right click, properties, update driver, select folder where i extracted the inf and subfolders, and it says; "Windows could not find driver software for your device."
I will try the other INFs now...

Hmm, nope those INFs don't work either

Ok, I think I found a way... kinda. I clicked Update Driver, Browse My Computer, then I clicked "Let me choose from a list of devices" instead of searching a folder for drivers... then I selected libusb from the list, then I clicked Have Disk, then I went to the folder and "ProxMark-3 RFID Instrument" showed up.
The problem is, after installing, I got this; Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it" and I got Code 43... so now I can see the ProxMark-3 in device manager under libusb (WinUSB) devices, but it has the yellow ! mark on it and I still can't use the old flasher.

I suppose you need to download the: Proxmark-Driver-2012-01-15.7z file.
It contains all files needed besides just the inf.
Offline
Yeah, I did that... I even copied the /amd64 libusb dll and sys file to /windows/system32 to try to get things working... still no go.

Did you read this one?
http://www.proxmark.org/forum/viewtopic … 4584#p4584

Yes, but every permutation of those instructions includes a line like "Find the PM3 in your device manager under Human Interface Devices" which, as we've established, does not apply to me because my proxmark is not showing up as an HID device... and I've tried to follow those instructions regardless, and I have the same issue.
I'm giving up for now and going to bed... it's 3:30am here. At this point I'm hoping someone takes me up on my exchange offer. My proxmark3 + $50 for an updated proxmark3 running latest firmware and fancy new serial interface.

/so now I can see the ProxMark-3 in device manager under libusb (WinUSB) devices/
But you can see it under libusb? I think you should uninstall libusb and start over.
